If you’re looking for a home away from home in Pittsburgh, the Hyatt House Bloomfield/Shadyside is the perfect spot

When browsing for the perfect spot to stay on our New England tour, the Shadyside part of Pittsburgh is always where I gravitate. Nestled outside of downtown but still surrounded by all the action, it’s a neighborhood with plenty to do. So, when Hyatt House Bloomfield/Shadyside offered to host us while in town, we were thrilled! We’ve always been a big fan of Hyatt hotels and this would be my first time checking out a “Hyatt House” property specifically – boy, were we in for a seriously awesome stay or what. hyatt-house-lobby

We arrived to town and made our way over to the hotel where we were greeted by the friendliest check-in staff. After giving us the full run down (including a ton of great food recommendations) we made our way up to our room. Once inside, we were truly floored. I knew Hyatt Houses were a nice option, but we were shocked by how nice the studio was. From the high-end kitchen with every appliance you could need to the huge shower with luxury finishes– we knew we were in for a really great stay. Best part for us? The studio has a pull-out couch and considering my snoring can be heard through walls (apparently) so we always appreciate another crash pad for one of us to retreat to when it becomes insufferable.

A 5-Star Experience at 4-Star Prices

Sure, lots of hotels these days have a marketplace and maybe they provide a well-rounded hot breakfast (complimentary), but the Hyatt House Bloomfield/Shadyside takes amenities to the next level. To start, in addition to the marketplace in the lobby there is the stunning H Bar, a fabulous lounge and dining area, and the indoor pool (yas!). Then, there’s the laundry list of amenities – including on-site laundry (with no coins needed!!), a free grocery shopping service, fitness center and of course – complimentary breakfast every morning. While some of these are fairly standard at most hotels, the free grocery shopping service and the truly incredible breakfast spread included in your stay were some of the things that made it next-level-nice for us. Plus, at the time, the pool was by reservation only – how often do you get a hotel pool all to yourself??

The Perfect Basecamp

As I mentioned earlier in this blog, we picked the Hyatt House Bloomfield/Shadyside because it was situated on the edges of two great neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. Bloomfield is the “Little Italy” of Pittsburgh and known for its heavy Italian influences in food and culture whereas Shadyside is one of the more up-and-coming neighborhoods with a diverse population that brings a lot to the table. Conveniently located close to downtown while also far enough out to avoid all the noise, there’s tons to walk to from the hotel and even more just a short drive away.

Attractions

If you’re looking for ways to pass some time, Pittsburgh has it all! Under 3 miles from the Hyatt House you can visit Phipps Conservatory or the Carnegie Museum. There’s also Sally’s Path and Mellon Park if you’re looking for a more outdoor-style cultural experience. During my first visit to Pittsburgh my friend took me to Phipps Conservatory and it really is one of the most stunning indoor botanical gardens you could ever experience, I highly suggest making it a must-do if you’re looking for a nearby experience.

Food

If you read my full blog and what to do, see + eat in Pittsburgh, then you already know what Fujiyama Ramen and Pamela’s Diner are just a short walk from the hotel and well worth the visit. There’s also G’s on Liberty (right around the corner from the hotel) if you’re looking for a great date night spot as well as Bird on The Run further up the road if you want a delicious fast-casual meal. I’m not even scraping the surface of all the food available, the Hyatt House Bloomfield/Shadyside is surrounded by pockets of incredible eateries. Beyond what’s nearby, all guests get access to the amazing spread the hotel provides every morning. This isn’t the same eggs and potatoes you’d get anywhere else, we were thrilled to see each day the kitchen would switch up what was offered – creating a delicious variety we never could have expected.

Coffee

One thing the Shadyside area for sure isn’t lacking in is coffee shops! If the morning coffee service at the hotel doesn’t keep you buzzed all day, just a couple blocks from the Hyatt House Bloomfield/Shadyside is Yinz Coffee, a popular chain in the city. Whether you like it iced or hot, the’ll make it perfectly. Looking for something with a little bit more of an indie vibe? I recommend taking a walk to Adda Coffee & Tea House. Not only is their shop full of the coolest gifts and sundries that keep me in there for hours, they have some really delicious off-the-wall drink options that change periodically. If you love trying new beverages and supporting local, Adda’s is the spot.

Beyond that, Pittsburgh (like any city), is flush with their Starbucks’ and Dunkins’. You’ll never be too far away from that caffeine kick.

The Room

I already mentioned how incredible the room was, but I have to take a moment to really drive that home. I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels, from 1-star to 5-star – I’ve seen it all! We were jaws-on-the-floor shocked by how nice the rooms were at the Hyatt House. The layout is not only interesting, it’s really effective – taking what is a fairly small space and giving it the life and flow of a full apartment. We were stoked to have a kitchenette as well (and freezer!) to be able to cook for ourselves when wanted. Plus, as I also mentioned earlier, the pull-out sofa made it so my husband and I could get some space between us and muffle my snoring. What we weren’t expecting was that with the layout of this apartment it’s nearly sound proof despite there being nothing but a TV between the couch and kingsize bed. Talk about a win!

My biggest pet peeve with most urban hotels is the view. Normally I’ll keep the curtains pulled the entire time because it’s some alley way or the brick wall of another building meeting my gaze, but Pittsburgh being as beautiful it is and this property taking up essentially an full block – you get some beautiful views of town. Our view had gorgeous trees and a nearby parklette below next to a gorgeous church. Can’t really complain about that, now can I?

So, now that you’ve learned more about this incredible place to stay in an amazing city to visit it’s time to make your travel plans! No matter what season you’re visiting, Pittsburgh is ready to make it a trip to remember and the Hyatt House is here to provide comfort and safety.
